Golden City in the Desert Light
Mixed technique on digitally printed satin with base images extracted from a video recording. Series of 18 works. 23x41cm
It happened suddenly, one day, in front of me, the light bursted. Through a glass, half full of water, the colours spread and I saw what I could only describe as a fata morgana. A landscape of an African desert with a city far in the distance. And that wasn’t the end, the light started flickering and the city disappearing and moments later reappearing. And new cities emerged close and far away with suburbs and shiny skyscrapers. I recorded the moment and later extracted eighteen views from it. The moments became an architectural storyboard, printed on satin, with lines imposed by the bending fabric and a geometry of colour constructing architecture and cities.
